If you're saying, "what is this leftover roll you speak of?" you probably don't have a husband who buys two dozen rolls for ten people. Which means you might not have a bag full of rolls left over after Thanksgiving. To you, I say: carry on!
If you're still with me, let me just say that I feel weird posting a "recipe" for French toast because it's probably something everyone already knows how to make. The only reason I'm posting it is because I'm a sucker for mini food, and this is just adorable. Really, how much cuter could it be to slice a dinner roll like it's a mini loaf?
I know, right? They're like three inches wide. So cute.
Anyway, mini food is perfect for those post-holiday meals when you don't feel terribly hungry but your kids still insist on eating so you're forced back to the kitchen to whip up something. And in the end, who doesn't have room for a slice of itty-bitty teeny-weeny French toast? Here's what you'll need:
3-4 dinner rolls, sliced
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp vanilla
vegetable oil (or butter) for frying
While you warm the oil (or butter) in your frying pan, whisk together the eggs, milk, spices, and vanilla in a shallow bowl. Whisk until combined. Dip bread slices in egg mixture to coat both sides, then pan fry until golden brown (2 or 3 minutes should do it). Flip to brown the other side, then flip onto a teeny-tiny plate (okay, it can be a big plate) and serve with maple syrup, fruit, a dash of powdered sugar and cinnamon, whipped cream, or your favorite topping.
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Did you make turkey sandwiches with the leftover dinner rolls? Or do you have other recipes for leftovers? (Make sure you buy extra rolls at Christmas for that teeny-tiny French toast you'll want on December 26.)
